“Don’t worry”: a young YouTuber’s last message to his grandmother before she died in a snowstorm in Sweden

“It’s snowing heavily here. But don’t worry, I’ll survive, you know.” This is the last message sent by Storm De Beul, a 22-year-old Belgian who went hiking in the Swedish forests of the Jokkmokk region, to his grandmother before dying. The young man who documented his adventures on YouTube died on October 30, surprised by a violent snowstorm, Belgian media report.

“A very sad announcement, my eldest grandson, our solitary sportsman Storm, 22 years old, was found dead on October 30 in Swedish Lapland, where he had been hiking outdoors since this summer. He was surprised by a snowstorm one day from his final destination, before help arrived due to bad weather,” explains the young man’s grandmother, Hedwig DJ. Bierbeek, to the Belgian media Leuven Actueel.

The daily Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) specifies that Storm De Beul contacted emergency services during the night, explaining that he was injured. But they did not see him come to his aid, given the bad weather conditions. When the helicopter was finally able to take off the next day, Storm Beul was already dead. His body was repatriated to his country of origin, where the funeral was held on Saturday.

“Storm was someone who had trouble making connections. He really liked being alone, his father told the press. As he had good savings, he regularly went on adventures in nature. It made him really happy. There he could choose his own path, literally and figuratively. » According to 7 sur 7, the man planned to go to Sweden after the winter, in search of his son's camera containing the images of his last journey.
