The Sdis took stock of what was destroyed: “Seven large chalets, as well as four refrigerated trucks and four maritime crates used for storing foodstuffs”. Gas canisters exploded in the fire, causing explosions which were heard throughout the surrounding area.
Fire under control
Firefighters have not yet completely extinguished the fire, but the fire was under control at 7 a.m. They smothered the hearth by drowning operations. 65 firefighters were mobilized, helped by pump trucks and emergency vehicles. At present, no human casualties have been reported.
The Barcarès market was due to open on November 16. It is a flagship annual event in the region. According to our colleagues, it welcomed 1.6 million visitors.
