Dalida died almost 40 years ago. In order to pay tribute to the star of French song, Michel Drucker wanted to dedicate the Vivement Dimanche broadcast to him on November 10. For the occasion, the singer's brother, Orlando, was seated on the famous red sofa and he made some confidences…
A secret passion revealed in broad daylight. The beautiful Dalida turned heads, whatever the environment. Thirty-seven years after his death, the singing icon remains an unforgettable voice for many French people. To pay homage to him, Michel Drucker wanted to dedicate a special episode of Roll on Sunday. On this occasion, the singer's brother took a seat on the red sofa and looked back on the important stages of the life of his missing sister.
Even if many rumors had spread about the relationship between Dalida and François Mitterrandnone of them had ever confirmed. But faced with the legendary presenter, Orlando sincerely answered all the questions concerning the supposed intimate relationship which linked Dalida with the former President of the Republic. “It was private and it had to remain private. Finally everyone took care of it. It's embarrassing because I know something happened. I never said it. Michel, this is the first time I've said: yes, it's true that something happened. I always passed without answering. But time passes then as much as it is me who says it, who experienced it.”, revealed the 88-year-old man to Michel Drucker.
Dalida and François Mitterrand experienced “something”
The brother of the icon with a tragic destiny wanted to reestablish the truth in the face of biographers who did not know the star. “They want to write Dalida's life, they rewrite it as she sang so well: in their own way. But that's not the truth. So I prefer to say it myself. Yes, there was something.“Friends since the 1970s, it was especially in 1981 that Dalida and Mitterrand stood out: when the interpreter of “Bambino” publicly committed to supporting the presidential candidate. “They had known each other for ten years. No one was offended or asked questions…(…) The day he became president, it panicked the Internet, as they say, and the media. And they discovered this story. It wasn't very pleasant because there was family there.”, retraced Orlando.
He gave some details about this secret affair, the ins and outs of which few people know. “You know he went to her house sometimes. He had nerve François Mitterrand. It rang at any time.”says Orlando. Before telling: “And besides, what did the secret services who were with him do? One day Dalida hears hammering at 6 a.m., 7 a.m. (…) she calls her maid who tells her 'madam they are putting lots of street lights in the street because the secret services were afraid that someone would assassinate her.” The producer of Dalida specifies that in “the little rue d'Orchampt (where Dalida lived, Editor's note), there is no light.” A declaration validated by Michel Drucker: “It’s very dark.”
Orlando admits to resenting the former President of the Republic
However, the one who lost his sister in 1987 holds a certain grudge against the former President of the Republic. François Mitterrand did not travel for the funeral of the woman who had been elected Miss Egypt. “I resented him and I will always resent him. Because given the friendship they had, seen how Dalida risked her career and her friends to commit to him – she who had never committed – he did not come to the house and he did not come to Madeleine”at the end, encore touché, Orlando Gigliotti.
