The mobilization organized by the RPPRAC called “the Maroon March” brought together several thousand people in Paris on Sunday November 10. A red wave swept through the streets of the capital from Denfert-Rochereau to protest against the high cost of living.
Despite the gray Parisian weather on this Sunday afternoon in November, several thousand demonstrators responded to the call launched by members of the RPPRAC (Rally for the Protection of Afro-Caribbean Peoples and Resources) to come and protest against the high cost of living .
Like last Sunday, in the procession which left from Denfert-Rochereau (14th arrondissement of Paris), red, the symbolic color of the group since the start of its mobilization in Martinique, is clearly visible. The colorful flags of the Kanaks, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Reunion are also present.
The leaders of the RPPRAC collective including Rodrigue Petitot are present.
This is normally their last demonstration in France before returning to Martinique. Many signs are carried at arm's length by the demonstrators. We can read slogans denouncing this high cost of living in the overseas departments, such as this message: “Everyone has the right to a standard of living sufficient to ensure their health and well-being and that of their family, particularly with regard to food.“.
Other signs refer to the colonial past of the territories. “They took away our chains just to blind the world. Stop the high cost of living.“
“Today, we no longer want this right to pay more than others” can we read on another sign held proudly by a woman.
A little further in the procession, another woman holds up a slightly more political sign with the words “ end of the world, end of the month same leaders, same fight ! “
Many bikers are also present. They too had called for a rally on November 10 to protest against the high cost of living overseas.
