Palma/Ibiza, Nov 10 (EFE).- The Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands has raised to 118 the number of immigrants who reached the archipelago this Saturday aboard six boats, in a week in which up to 48 have arrived on the islands. boats with 814 occupants.
Early Saturday morning, the Formentera Civil Guard intercepted a group of 15 people of North African origin, in apparently good health, in the s'Estufador area, the Government Delegation reported.
Another 11 immigrants were intercepted in the eastern area of Formentera around 8:00 a.m., after reaching the island in what would be the second boat of the day.
Nine miles south of Cabrera, in Mallorca, a boat with 20 people was found at 10:00 am and, an hour later, also south of Cabrera, another boat with 23 immigrants was seen.
The Maritime Service of the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue also intervened last afternoon in the location of 17 people of North African origin on a boat intercepted eight miles south of the Cabrera archipelago, in Mallorca.
Furthermore, around 8:00 p.m., Maritime Rescue found the sixth boat of the day in the Balearic Islands, located 10 miles from Formentera with 13 people on board of North African origin.
The spokesman for the Balearic Government, Antoni Costa, demanded this Friday from the state government a change in the immigration policy to stop the entry of boats from Algeria to the islands.
So far this year, at least 4,694 immigrants have arrived in the Balearic archipelago in 284 boats, according to EFE's count.
Last year, 128 boats reached the islands with a total of 2,278 immigrants. EFE
