This Friday evening, the first match of the 11th day of Ligue 1 took place in Marseille. Plagued by doubt after weeks of alternation between good and bad, OM had to win at home against AJ Auxerre who became more and more dangerous as the weeks went by. After a draw in Lyon two weeks ago (2-2), the promoted team inflicted a humiliating spanking on Rennes last week (4-0). Thus, the state of mind was clear in the Auxerre ranks: create the feat by beating an OM who were not so comfortable at home this season. As a reminder, OM have only won one of their last four matches at the Vélodrome. From the start, AJA put incredible pressure on the Olympian defense. And it paid off with one of the first dangerous balls sent into the Marseille side of the field. After a first alert from Gaëtan Perrin (6th), Lassine Sinayoko took advantage of Lilian Brassier's huge ball to quickly open the scoring (0-1, 10th). Despite possession largely to their advantage (77th), Roberto De Zerbi's men did not find the weapons to equalize despite two situations for Neal Maupay (31st, 36th), and were defeated just before the break. While Gaëtan Perrin scored the second goal of the evening after remarkable composure against Géronimo Rulli (0-2, 43rd), the OL-trained player found Hamed Traoré on the left. The Ivorian, keystone of OM's offensive system, played against Pol Lirola before finishing between the legs of the Argentine goalkeeper (0-3, 45th). An impressive humiliation for the OM players who returned to the locker room under the copious whistles of the Vélodrome.

Upon returning from the locker room, the OM players were obviously keen to show a different face despite another round of whistles received from their supporters. To boost his team, Roberto De Zerbi decided to bring Ismaël Koné, Elye Wahi and Ulisses Garcia into play. However, the danger from Auxerre was still present and Hamed Traoré, still valuable in the game, still stood out with a shot which crashed into Rulli's post (48th). After several other missed opportunities (55th, 59th), Auxerre even missed the opportunity to take definitive shelter before a possible burst of Marseille pride. The latter came a few minutes later. In a trivial action, Mason Greenwood inherited a penalty after shooting Akpa's hand in the area. Without trembling, the Englishman transformed his attempt to join Bradley Barcola at the head of the Ligue 1 scorers ranking, and to give hope to OM in this match (1-3, 65th). However, despite this hopeful goal, Marseille did not show enough to unbalance a well-established Auxerre block to keep this victory in sight. Donovan Léon was also able to work on multiple occasions to maintain this scoring advantage (71st, 84th). Brilliant at the end of the first period and united in the second half, AJ Auxerre went for a great victory in Marseille (1-3). A brilliant success in the race to maintain and which allows Auxerre to maintain recent European hopes. With these three welcome points, the AJA climbs to 6th place. For its part, Marseille confirms its major difficulties at home. Already swept aside two weeks ago during the Classic against PSG (0-3), Adrien Rabiot's teammates continued with a second humiliating defeat on home soil. OM is still stalling and is giving its direct competitors the opportunity to inexorably move closer to it. Marseille temporarily remains second.
