We are now just days away from one of the biggest nights in Music, the MTV EMAs. Hosted this year in Manchester, the 30th edition of the show is set to be a star-studded night held in the Co-op Live arena, with Taylor Swift leading nominations for the second year running.
The show this year is set to be hosted by singer-songwriter Rita Oramaking her the show’s first three-time host. “I’m over the moon that I get to be back with my MTV family […] the EMAs stage has become like another home to me, and this year’s show in Manchester is going to be absolutely incredible!” said Ora of the upcoming ceremony, promising ‘plenty of surprises’ on the night.
Alongside Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter are amongst the top contenders for the evening’s awards. Swift, who this year won big at the MTV VMAs, becoming the most decorated solo artist at the VMAs of all time after winning seven categories, is up for a further seven awards at this years the EMAs, including ‘Best Artist’, ‘Best Video’, ‘Biggest Fans’ and ‘Best Pop.’
A further nineteen nominees have the chance to score their first ever MTV EMA in Manchester this year: Come down and Tinashe in the ‘Best R&B’ category, DC Fountains for ‘Best Alternative’, and The Last Dinner Party for ‘Best New Artist’.
In other news, Hip-Hop legend Busta Rhymes is to receive the Global Icon Award at the ceremony, taking over the stage for a performance of his greatest hits. “I am beyond honored and grateful to receive the MTV EMA Global Icon Award. This recognition is not only a celebration of my career but also of hip-hop culture. To be acknowledged on this global stage is a reminder that hip-hop has no boundaries – and neither do I,” said the 12-time GRAMMY Award nominee of the honour.
Alongside Rhymes’ hotly-anticipated performance, the evening will see Shawn Mendes, Featherweight, RAYE, Teddy Swims, The Warning, Silence, THE SERAPHIM and Pet Shop Boys take to the stage. Pet Shop Boys will meanwhile be joined on stage by the Manchester Camerata for a career-high performance, marking 40 years since the release of their first record. Receiving the MTV EMA Pop Pioneers Award in recognition of their contribution to the world of pop music, the band’s performance will see them collaborate with Manchester Camerata – an orchestra which has been working in Manchester and beyond since 1972.
The show will be broadcast live on MTV in over 150 countries on Sunday 10th November, on Pluto TV in some territories, as well as being on-demand on Paramount.
