Dantesque extra time, Lyon's understudies miss the boat… The tops and flops

Hoffenheim and parted ways in a 2-2 draw this Thursday, in Germany, in a match on the fourth day of the Europa League that was undecided until the end.

TOPS

Rémy Descamps, solid understudy

Very good game from the second goalkeeper of Olympique Lyonnais. Last starting nine months ago, with , Remy Descamps delivered a very good game during the draw at Hoffenheim (2-2) on Thursday in the Europa League. Eight saves on the clock, including several which allowed Lyon to stay in the game even though there was only one goal overall. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has his view obstructed on the second German goal, which prevents him from intervening correctly. Despite this, Descamps can be very satisfied with his performance and will undoubtedly still be used by Pierre Sage during the season.

Lyon wakes up 30 minutes from time

The fantastic four (Lacazette, Cherki, Fofana and Maintland-Niles) came to the rescue of a Lyon team in great difficulty. More fluidity, more automatism, they made the Lyon game much more sympathetic in the eyes of Pierre Sage and had an immediate effect on the scoreboard with the equalizer from Abner Vinicius. As a good captain, General Lacazette thought he would give his team victory by scoring in the 93rd minute, but that was without counting on the die-hard Hoffenheim players, who played the game until the end, and who were rewarded.

Last five minutes of fire

If the second half was much more attractive than the first, added time was clearly the most exciting period. Two goals in the space of two minutes, two teams giving everything to recover the points. This is why we love football. Both teams had their highlights but we had to wait until the end of the match to see each of them being clinical. We're not going to complain, the match was quite pleasant overall despite everything.

FLOPS

A tasteless first half for Lyon

No one was necessarily surprised to see OL concede a goal at the start of the second half (Gendrey, 47th). After conceding 10 shots in the first act, Lyon returned late from the locker room in the literal and figurative sense of the term. Apart from a header from Georges Mikautadze (10th), the Gones spent their entire first period in their camp, which allowed Remy Descamps to show his talents. So much the better for the former Nantes goalkeeper, not so much for Pierre Sage.

10 changes too many

Olympique Lyonnais is fortunate to have a large squad which allows it to be able to play all competitions to the fullest. You should know how to use it well. Compared to the match against , Pierre Sage decided to change 10 of his 11 players at kick-off. Duje Caleta-Car was the only Lyon player to retain his starting place. Unfortunately for the Rhone technician, these changes were counterproductive for his team, which cruelly lacked automatisms in the first part of the match, suffering the wrath of Hoffenheim, 16th in the Bundesliga standings and the worst defense in Germany . This match could well serve as a lesson for Sage. Above all, the understudies missed the opportunity to score points in the mind of their coach…
