During his life, Serge Gainsbourg had three great muses: Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and his last companion Bambou. Lulu Gainsbourg's mother unveils this Thursday, November 7, her first autobiography published by XO entitled Step by step in the night. The model looks back on her childhood and her love story with Charlotte Gainsbourg's father. Guest on the set of C to you on France 5, on the occasion of the release of her book, the singer recounted one of her arguments with the star. In 1986, the artist decided to launch his partner's musical career with the song Full-time life then producing the album with her Made in China in 1989.
The recording of this album, however, proved difficult for the couple. “It went so badly, he was shouting at me and I was doing stupid things. We had to take him out of the studio, it was going so badly”tells Bambou on this subject during the show. The singer managed to come to his senses after a break and everything ended up working out: “I rehearsed by myself, we brought her in and I recorded my two songs.”
Serge Gainsbourg: how did Bambou prevent him from “getting damaged”?
In 2018, Jane Birkin published her memoir entitled Munkey Diaries. In this work, the singer then expressed her enthusiasm to see Serge Gainsbourg find love again in the arms of Bambou. “From then on, I knew he was safe,” wrote Lou Doillon’s mother. Before explaining why Lulu Gainsbourg's mother was, according to her, “the best of people” for the singer: “She prevented Serge from ruining himself, from damaging himself. She gave him a child [Lulu, né en janvier 1986, ndlr]a new family. She was young, beautiful, and she tolerated the way he spoke to her.” The actress has always gotten along very well with her ex-husband's last partner, as she explained in her book: “It allowed me to have a professional life and [d’être] close with Serge, without putting her in danger.”
