“They train here on Friday and then they go back to the Netherlands. The real preparation for Ajax starts on Saturday,” Ten Voorde explains. The Balls of Mind. “That is of course the big match of the week. That does not mean that they are letting this match take place in Europe, but you notice everywhere that Ajax is the match of the week.”
FC Twente fought hard for the group stage of the Europa League, but Sunday’s competition match seems a little more important. “I spoke to Mees Hilgers this week in Hengelo at the training complex,” says Ten Voorde. He also said: It’s not going to happen on Thursday, maybe it could have been done with some risk. But he also immediately said that Sunday is very important.”
Trainer Joseph Oosting announced at the press conference on Wednesday that he was fully occupied with Nice. “He did not want to do that in public, although Ajax’s name was of course mentioned. He said that he will only look at it from Friday, but in the back of his mind that really does play a role. That does not mean that they I don’t plan on making anything of it tonight and saving my legs, not at all. You’ve been playing football for this for a year and FC Twente has great posters in Europe. You really notice that the players want to show themselves in Europe. They really enjoy these types of competitions,” concludes Ten Voorde.
