Bayern's game against Benfica is not a good one. After the late kick-off, there was suddenly silence in the Allianz Arena. After the game there is sad certainty.
A fan of the German record champions died after a medical emergency after FC Bayern's 1-0 win against Benfica on Wednesday evening. The person had previously suffered a medical emergency in the stands. “Around an hour after the final whistle, the German record champions received the sad news that the fan had died on the way to the hospital,” the Munich team wrote in a statement on Thursday night. “FC Bayern is at the side of the relatives in mourning.”
Shortly after the start of the Champions League game, an oppressive atmosphere developed in the Allianz Arena. Many Munich supporters stopped their usual chants. The reason for the calm in the south curve was the emergency medical intervention in the southeast of the arena. Several rescue workers attended to an emergency in the stands.
The incident occurred in the 6th minute of the game at the entrance to block 226 in the middle tier, in the right corner above the south curve. What exactly happened there initially remained unclear. A number of folders stood around an opaque black cloth.
At around 9:48 p.m., the person being treated was brought down the stairs on a stretcher, wrapped in a blanket. In response to a SID request, FC Bayern confirmed during half-time that a person had to be resuscitated several times and transported away under resuscitation.
After a good half hour of play, one of the lead singers made an announcement via microphone in the south curve to inform the fans. All flags were then rolled up and taken out of the block and support from this area was finally stopped. In the mixed zone, an FC Bayern spokesman confirmed that the person had to be resuscitated and was taken to hospital. Now there is sad certainty.
