Serge Boulanger was named this Wednesday new prefect of Vienne. Aged 60, this senior civil servant has a degree in public law. He worked for the prefectures of Pas-de-Calais, Loire-Atlantique and Hautes-Alpes. Four years ago, he was assigned to the Paris police headquarters where he served as director of transport and public protection, then secretary general of the capital's defense and security zone. It was in this latter position that he led the development of security, safety and emergency systems for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Serge Boulanger replaces Jean-Marie Girier40 years old, prefect arrived in February 2022 to take over from Chantal Castelnot. A prefect described by his detractors as “political” and who will have clashed several times in the press or in court with the town hall of Poitiers (case of subsidies to the Alternatiba associationcontestation of irregularities in appointments in Grand-Poitiers or participation of the community in the cooperative La Ceinture Verte).
Close to Emmanuel Macron, Jean-Marie Girier also had the management of the thorny issue of agricultural substitution reserves in the department, a subject which still remains extremely sensitive despite numerous attempts to bring together the different actors around the table. Launched in 2019, the HMUC study of the Clain basin has still not been adopted. We are now talking about a vote in spring 2025. This will be one of the priority projects for the new prefect Serge Boulanger.
Jean-Marie Girier, for his part, continues his career in New Aquitaine. He was appointed prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
