More women in news. This is what was announced the Parisian this Wednesday, November 6, 2024. With Maya Lauqué and Sonia Chironi at the helm of the 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. editions of France 2 during school holidays, France Télévisions is banking on two chain figures already well known to viewers. The two journalists, who each occupy a distinct role within the France Télévisions group, will assume their new functions from the end of year holidays, thus integrating into a new team of replacements formed over the last few months.
Sonia Chironi, host of a daily news segment on Franceinfoand Maya Lauqué, face of Telematin during the weekends, were chosen as Julian Bugier's replacement jokers and Laurent Delahousserespectively, for the 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. editions.
A revisited team of substitutes
Since this summer, Sonia Chironi, 45, has regularly been tested in this role by France 2, where she presented news in the first part of the evening. From the end of year holidays, she will officially succeed Thomas Sotto, who left to join RTL after having taken over the 20 Hours on weekends since 2017. As for Maya Lauqué, she will take the succession of Nathanaël de Rincquesen as the joker on Julian Bugier's midday news, a role she already experienced during a previous test session earlier in the year.
These designations are part of a desire of France Télévisions to renew its replacements and to instill a spirit of modernity and diversity in its information editions. TF1 recently appointed Jean-Baptiste Boursier as Gilles Bouleau's joker for the 20 Hours, also bringing a breath of fresh air to the competing channel. In addition, Julien Arnaud, former TF1 presenter, took the role of joker for Anne-Sophie Lapix, succeeding Karine Baste for the 20 Hours of the week.
