Queen Camilla replaced by Duchess of Gloucester for health reasons

Queen Camilla has fallen ill and adjustments to her schedule are expected. Queen Camilla will not accompany King Charles III in the coming days. She will be replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester for an engagement scheduled for this Thursday.

Queen Camilla suffers from respiratory infection forcing her to cancel engagements

This November 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Camilla, 77, has fallen ill. The wife of King Charles III suffers from a chest infection. Queen Camilla has not appeared in public for several days, due to the period of leave granted to sovereigns after their trip to Australia and Samoa. King Charles held his first audience at Buckingham Palace this Tuesday, since his return from Oceania.

This Thursday, November 7, Queen Camilla was to make her first public engagement since her return from Samoa. The Queen was due to attend a commemoration ceremony at Westminster. Every year, on the last Thursday before the Armistice, a commemoration ceremony is organized which is attended by the royal family. Buckingham Palace announces that it will be the Duchess of Gloucester, 78, who will travel there and replace Queen Camilla. Duchess Birgitte is the wife of Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.

The same day, Queen Camilla was also due to accompany King Charles to the reception he will organize at Buckingham Palace in honor of British Olympic medalists. Other members of the royal family could be present. The period of sick leave is not specified but it is likely that Queen Camilla will do everything possible to be recovered by next weekend. The King, Queen and other members of the royal family are expected to take part in the annual Armistice commemorations.
