Presidential candidate Kamala Harris proves in the final stretch of the US election that she can laugh at herself. The 60-year-old made a brief appearance on the high-rating sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live”.
Harris was essentially a mirror image of an actress who embodied the Democrat. “Am I really laughing like that?” asked Harris in the sketch, which was about a minute and a half long. Then she and actress Maya Rudolph satirized some typical election campaign phrases – and shouted “Believe in the promise of America” at about the same time.
Conservative Iowa: Poll sees Harris ahead of Trump
Washington, November 3rd, 2024: Shortly before the US presidential election, a new survey is causing a stir: Democrat Kamala Harris is ahead of her rival Donald Trump in the conservative state of Iowa. In the survey by the regional newspaper “Des Moines Register” in collaboration with Mediacom Iowa Poll and the polling institute Selzer & Company, 47 percent of the likely voters surveyed said they wanted to vote for Harris – 44 percent would vote for Trump. Harris’ lead is within the margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. And that’s special because Iowa is currently considered a Republican-voting state. The last time a Democrat won was Barack Obama, who won the state in 2008 and 2012.

Republican candidate Donald Trump also had to put up with a joke: “You can do something your opponent can’t: you can open doors,” Harris said to her reflection in the sketch. She was obviously referring to a scene from Trump’s election campaign: The 78-year-old appeared with a garbage truck in reference to a controversial statement by President Joe Biden – and reached past the door handle several times when getting into the driver’s cab.
