After the sledgehammer blow against FC Barcelona in El Clásico (0-4), Real Madrid has received a new blow from AC Milan. With an excellent and scoring Tijjani Reijnders, the Italians won 1-3 in the Champions League in the Bernabéu.
Malick Thiaw headed Milan into an early lead in an exciting first half from Christian Pulisic's corner. Cup holder Real then went all out on attack and quickly came alongside. Vinícius Júnior was awarded a penalty after a foul by Emerson Royal and the Brazilian took advantage of the opportunity with a 'panenka'.
In the lead
Former Real striker Álvaro Morata gave Milan the lead again before halftime. He took advantage of the rebound after a shot by Rafael Leão. Milan was under a lot of pressure after the break and had chances to equalize through Kylian Mbappé, among others. Milan keeper Mike Maignan made several saves.
In the meantime, Reijnders had taken control in midfield and Milan were dangerous on the counter. The Dutchman was responsible for the third goal with a clever action between three Real players. After Leão put it back, Rejjnders eventually got the ball back and shot in from close range.
For Reijnders it was his fourth goal in his last three games for Milan. Morata hit the intersection and Antonio Rüdiger's goal was disallowed after intervention by VAR Pol van Boekel.
The second home defeat in a row was a fact for Real. That last happened in October 2020. It was also the second defeat in this CL season, after the 1-0 defeat at Lille OSC.
