FC Bayern: Adam Aznou could inherit Alphonso Davies

Given the plight of injuries in Munich’s defense, Aznou’s debut had actually been expected for a long time. Sacha Boey, Josip Stanisic and Hiroki Ito have been out injured for weeks, and Raphael Guerreiro has to regularly help out on the right side of the defense, which is an unfamiliar position for him. Regular left-back Alphonso Davies presented himself as a lone fighter on the left but was so consistent and fit that Kompany apparently saw no need for a break. The time had finally come against Union.

When Aznou came into the game for Davies, his colleague, six years his senior, hugged him with a smile. “Alphonso is my role model,” Aznou explained afterwards. “The last time I wasn’t substituted, Alphonso told me that I was on the right track and that I should keep working on myself. He’s really a big help to me.” Davies’ career can serve as a role model for Aznou. The now 24-year-old Canadian also moved to Munich from abroad as an unknown teenager and developed into a regular player there.

Davies’ future at FC Bayern is uncertain. His contract expires next summer, there are currently no concrete negotiations, Real Madrid is vying for a free transfer. Should Davies move and Aznou continue to perform well this season, those responsible could seriously consider him when planning his successor – a great opportunity for the 18-year-old.

Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund have ultimately set themselves the goal of integrating self-trained top talents into the professional team. Aleksandar Pavlovic recently proved that it is possible. By the way, he made his debut almost exactly a year before Aznou on October 28, 2023.
