After hours At 4:00 p.m. Polish time, Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff entered the court in Riyadh. The result in Tuesday's first match (Krejcikova better than Pegula) meant that a victory over the American would ensure that the Pole would advance to the WTA Finals semi-finals from the first place in the Orange group. This did not happen, because Świątek lost 3:6, 4:6.
Świątek fought with her own serve from the very beginning. The Pole saved three break points in the third game and one in the fifth game. At 3:3, the Raszynia team did not get out of trouble. She made a few mistakes and was broken. Not only Świątek's serve was faulty, but also Świątek's forehand and backhand. Meanwhile, Gauff was very solid and effective in every aspect. In the ninth game, the Pole returned the serve again. She threw a forehand and the first set was over.
In the second game, for a change, Gauff struggled with her serve. In the opening match, Świątek scored her first break points in the match, two to be precise. She failed to use them. In the third game, the Pole wasted three chances to break, but in the fourth game she took advantage of her opponent's mistake. The Raszyn woman quickly gave back what she had won so hard. She lost her serve making four faults, including a double.

In the fifth game, Gauff got out of trouble and canceled out the break point. After a while, Świątek was at risk of losing her serve, but she fought off two break points. There was a tough battle for every point. In the seventh game, a great backhand cross brought the Pole a break. However, she was unable to increase her lead. She returned the pass, putting her forehand into the net. The Raszynia player made a lot of mistakes, which Gauff mercilessly took advantage of. In the 10th game, the American won the match ball. The upset Świątek missed her forehand and the match was over.
Świątek had won 11 of the previous 12 matches against Gauff. The American was on top a year ago in Cincinnati after a three-set battle. These tennis players competed in the WTA Finals for the third time. In 2022 and 2023, Świątek did not lose a set to Gauff, and two of them ended with a score of 6:0.
