EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) – It has been a loud and busy night with widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms. Severe threats remain quite low this morning, but heavy rains could lead to localized flooding so you might want to avoid areas that are known to flood easily. Thunderstorms will occasionally be capable of 30-40 mph gusts, so it is important to drive carefully this AM, especially while on any waterlogged roads. Today is Election Day and thankfully Mother Nature won’t keep the rain around all day. The last of our heavy t’storms should be out of East Texas by 12PM, with a few showers remaining a possibility into the afternoon and evening hours, mainly for Deep East Texas. These early storms are being driven by a fall cold front, so expect temperatures to range in the upper 50s to upper 60s for the majority of East Texas this morning, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s later this afternoon. Wednesday will trend mostly dry with highs in the 70s. Spotty showers return Wednesday night into Thursday, with some scattered rains remaining possible for our Friday as well. Another cold front will attempt to move through East Texas early Saturday, and if it can make it all the way through East Texas then most would see highs in the upper 60s on Saturday and near 70° on Sunday. We are also watching the tropics closely as Tropical Storm Rafael has formed in the Caribbean. Rafael will track northwestward toward Cuba later this week and will likely move into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday night as a hurricane. The forecast track is uncertain once Rafael gets closer to the Louisiana Gulf Coast late this week. Some tropical moisture could make its way into East Texas this weekend but significant impacts to our viewing area are not expected at this time.
