XALIMANEWS: Several political figures reacted, via social media, to the death on Monday at the age of 59 of the former Minister of Finance and Budget, Mamadou Moustapha Ba, including former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, who paid tribute to “a high-level executive, a loyal servant of the State and an exemplary citizen”.

“I am saddened to learn of the death of Mamadou Moustapha Ba, former Minister of Finance and Budget of Senegal. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this ordeal. May Allah […] have mercy on him,” wrote the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on X.

“I learned with dismay of Mamadou Moustapha Ba’s call to God […] Our country loses a high-level executive, a loyal servant of the State and an exemplary citizen,” responded former Prime Minister Amadou Ba. “Moustapha was one of my best collaborators, [lorsque] I was Minister of Economy and Finance.”

He is one of the civil servants who developed, “with patriotic dedication, the Emerging Senegal Plan”, recalled Amadou Ba on his Facebook page.

“More than a collaborator, Moustapha was my brother and friend, a wise advisor and a proven expert in public finances,” continued the former head of government, announcing that he had suspended the activities planned for this Monday evening for his campaign for the legislative elections on November 17, due to the death of the former minister.

Activist and former deputy Guy Marius Sagna, one of Pastef’s candidates for the legislative elections, remembered the “endurance” and “courtesy” that Mamadou Moustapha Ba showed in the National Assembly.

“We were on completely opposite sides. We crossed swords […] He never dodged the questions that I [posais]. His answers as Minister of Finance and Budget did not always suit me. But I felt a form of astonishment – ​​of respect – at his endurance and his courtesy in the hemicycle,” Mr. Sagna wrote on his Facebook page.

Mamadou Moustapha Ba died following a short illness. He was Minister of Finance and Budget between September 2022 and April 2024, after serving as Director General of the Budget for several years.

A graduate of the former National School of Applied Economics of Dakar – the current Higher School of Applied Economics – in 1991, Mamadou Moustapha Ba joined the Senegalese public finance administration in the early 1990s, before continuing his studies in Belgium.

Born in 1965 in Nioro du Rip, in the Kaolack region (center), he continued his studies at the University of Antwerp, in Belgium, before joining the economic and financial cooperation directorate of the Ministry of Finance at the beginning. from the 2000s.

Becoming deputy director of economic and financial cooperation in 2007, he then led this dismemberment of Senegal’s finance administration, from May 2012 to October 2014.
