– Jean-François Copé strongly criticized Catherine Vautrin's proposal to establish “participation” in “city uses”.
Jean-François Copé fires red cannonballs. Invited on the franceinfo set, Sunday November 3, the former Minister of the Budget and mayor of Meaux, in Seine-et-Marne, strongly criticized the proposal from Catherine Vautrin, the Minister of Partnership with the Territories and Decentralization, to establish a «participation» to “city uses”. “All this is a vast hypocrisy»he denounced, believing that the executive “beat around the bush”.
“A contribution is either a tax or a tax”commented Jean-François Copé, who said he was in favor of a return of a housing tax “reformed”. This could take the form of“a tax on residence” pour “bring together tenants and owners”, “exempt the most modest” and allow “municipalities to make a real link between what they spend and what they offer as public services to citizens”explained the mayor of Meaux to our colleagues.
After the property tax, soon the housing tax, are you concerned?
“There will be no return to housing tax”
In an interview given to ParisianSaturday, Catherine Vautrin assured that“there will be no return to housing tax on main residences” and put forward the idea of establishing a «participation» to replace it. She thus supports the proposal of the Association of Mayors of France calling for a “citizen contribution to public service”. The minister said she was ready to “resume work relating to taxation which had been started by elected officials from the Local Finance Committee”. She believes that we must first allow communities to “better control of their resources”before thinking about “a new tax”.
Catherine Vautrin declared that she wanted to launch a reflection on “possible participation in living in the town or village”while specifying that “this point will in any case not be included in the budget”. “I would like to open a consultation with local elected officials in early 2025»she added.
