For our part, we are completing our crossing of the United States. We traveled south, avoiding the big cities. Our journey is therefore not intended to be a survey. Nor does he have any divinatory claims about the outcome of the vote. But over the miles, an America appeared to us that we suspected. Without having yet understood the intensity of the phenomenon.
First, the hyper presence of Donald Trump through an often aggressive display (Donald Trump = Justice: Kamala Harris = crime). A campaign that would almost make the Democratic candidate invisible on the side of the roads. But what struck us most was the fervor of Trump’s supporters who perfectly integrated their candidate’s rhetoric. Particularly on the two themes that we have systematically heard about: immigration and taxation. Furthermore, Trump has also managed to distill into the population (both male and female), a primary hatred of Kamala Harris about which we heard comments that we did not even dare to integrate into our reports because they were so sexist, racist or simply filthy.
We will remember a bunch of meetings (which we invite you to listen to again): Jennifer and Birgit, best enemies, in Maryland. Three kids who had just gotten out of prison in Louisiana. Larry and the Bear take on illegal immigrants in Texas. Our adventure is now coming to an end. Tomorrow, Americans will be set on their fate for the next four years. Will they repeat four years of Trumpism or elect the first woman to lead their country? Nobody knows. One thing is certain. Tomorrow, the world will collapse for half of Americans. And on Wednesday, the country will wake up with a serious hangover.
