D-2 before the American presidential election. The two candidates begin their final sprint towards victory. Tuesday, November 5, 240 million American voters must cast their ballots. Due to the time difference, we will have to wait until the next day, Wednesday November 6 in the morning, to discover the first results.
The counting of each vote is likely to take several days. For several years, early voting by mail has been increasingly popular among Americans. This year, 67 million voters have already chosen to vote this way. Especially since the gap appears to be tight between the candidates. But it is still possible that victory will be granted to Trump or Harris as early as Wednesday morning.
This postal voting system is the subject of much debate. During the previous election in 2020, Donald Trump's voters, disappointed by Joe Biden's victory, contested the results, suspecting the polling stations of fraud. However, the authorities had not not found sufficient “fraud” to invalidate Joe Biden's victory.
Several days of waiting?
The final results of the election could take several hours, several days, or even several weeks. The count will take a long time and this delay could be an opportunity for one of the two camps to contest the result, as Donald Trump did in 2020.
In 2000, the final result of the election between Al Gore and George W. Bush was not known until more than a month later, after dispute over vote counting in Floridaand a decree from the Supreme Court on December 12.
