The wife of King Felipe VI accompanied him this Sunday to the scene of the floods in Paiporta, in the Valencia region. On the spot, she was also manhandled, receiving all kinds of insults and mud projectiles.

This Sunday, King Felipe VI of Spain and his wife, Queen Letizia, were struck by the anger of the inhabitants of Paiporta, in the municipality of Valencia. Visiting the city after the heavy floods which hit Spain on the night of October 29 to 30, during the passage of storm DANA – causing immeasurable damage – the royal couple was insulted on their arrival and splashed by mud jets. “Assassins,” shouted an enraged crowd stationed at the site of their visit. The floods have already killed more than 200 people.

“We are already dead”

In a video posted on social networks this Sunday, November 3, Queen Letizia of Spain struggles to hold back her tears. Manhandled by the crowd and covered in mud due to projectiles thrown by local residents, she is accompanied by a member of her team and puts her hand in front of her face before bursting into tears. “We are already dead (…), says a resident, as evidenced by the sequence. I know that I am not taking it out on you (…) who had nothing to do with it.”

The tragedy, which also affected Chiva, another nearby town, has already claimed hundreds of lives. We are talking about “the worst natural disaster in the history of the country”, according to the Spanish government. Five days later, searches continue to find the missing, “clear the roads and restore the infrastructure destroyed by the torrents of mud,” reports AFP.
