The European Cyclocross Championships in Pontevedra is a new course for many riders. Co-commentator Paul Herygers already went to explore it.
Something has been said about the course of the European Cyclo-cross Championships in Pontevedra. Interim national coach Angelo De Clercq called it a “flying meeting”, while Dutchman Pim Ronhaar and Lucinda Brand were not really positive.
Paul Herygers mentions it Sporza “a chic course”. “I don’t participate in the talk that goes around that it is too easy or that they could get more out of it. It is a course for ordinary citizens, 10 people can win here.”
It includes a sandbox, a narrow passage through a nature reserve and at the end of the round also a steep section. But it will mainly be the riders themselves who will have to make the difference.
Herygers sees many favorites for the European Cyclocross Championships
According to Herygers, the course will make it an exciting cross in Pontevedra. “It is not as specific as the Koppenberg or Beringen. This is an ordinary cross with the European jersey as the focus.”
There are some favorites with Nys, Iserbyt, Vanthourenhout, Sweeck, Van der Haar and Ronhaar. Herygers himself does not mention names. “Many Belgians and a few Dutch, we will have to make do with that.”
