Benfica’s coach, Bruno Lage, considers the victory fair against Farense and remembers the very tight schedule.
To departure
“We knew it would be a very difficult game. Based on the preview we made and the quality of Farense. It doesn’t justify the position they occupy at all. And then, due to the cycle of three games we had to play. We knew how difficult it was. We started very well, the Farense got the first goal, we reacted and tied the game. It ended up being a fair result, three more points.
Team has versatility and creates unpredictability
“That’s what we aim for with the work we do daily, looking at the characteristics of the players. We tried to surprise Farense with the eleven, causing some uncertainty. You remember that in the second minute, we recovered a ball at the edge of Farense’s area and it’s more a great opportunity. Coaching Benfica offers that, having the talent we have individually, and then it’s up to us to have these nuances, helps to build the performance and the result”.
Changes to the starting eleven
“It’s about looking at each one’s individual management. At the moment, it’s almost impossible, the way we want to play and press, to play cycles of three games with two days apart. Having a squad like this, we have to opt for the best eleven depending on the characteristics of the game”.
Two very demanding games to follow (Bayern and FC Porto)
“Now, after this cycle, another begins with at least one more day of recovery. We have to go back to doing what we have been doing. Preparing for the game in the best way, with the ambition of winning. That is our spirit. I just congratulated the players. They ran, fought, turned the result around and had a performance that leaves us satisfied.
Benfica defeated Farense, 2-1, with a comeback, but remains in third place in the championship.
