The Sao Paulo Grand Prix saw its schedule completely disrupted after qualifying was postponed, due to the dire conditions this Saturday evening in Brazil (to be found here).
The FIA tried to delay the qualifying session as much as possible, without success.
The FIA has now confirmed that qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix will begin at 7:30 a.m. local time (11:30 a.m. in France), five hours before the start of the race in Brazil, which will take place earlier than expected!
In accordance with F1 sporting regulations, the grid session must be completed at least three hours before the start time of the Grand Prix.
The race was scheduled for 2 p.m. local time (6 p.m. in France), but due to unfavorable weather forecasts, the start time was brought forward by 90 minutes, to 12:30 p.m. local time or 4:30 p.m. in France.
“The decision has been taken, after consultation with the stewards, to schedule qualifying at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning before the Grand Prix at 4:30 p.m. This will allow us to maximize our chances of providing fans with a day of racing and the FIA and the Formula 1 believe this timetable change is necessary and the right thing to do for all our passionate fans,” said FIA Director General Davide Martin.
