Ibrahima Konate was substituted at halftime against Brighton & Hove Albion in what was a damaging blow for Liverpool.

The Reds got all three points as Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scored second-half goals to complete the comeback after Ferdi Kadioglu’s opener, but the Frenchman’s injury left a sour note in what was an otherwise perfect outing at Anfield.

As Liverpool wait for the official verdict on Konate’s arm injury, Virgil van Dijk has shared an update on his defensive partner after his substitution.

Konate was seen holding his arm after falling awkwardly and was seen grimacing in pain as he failed to come out for the second half.

There were fears of a potential long-term absence, but Van Dijk hopes the Frenchman’s injury isn’t serious.

“So many bodies around the ball and I think I headed him on his arm,” said Van Dijk after the game on BBC Sport.

“Hopefully it is not too bad. We just have to see. You can be quite okay as a player with an arm injury so hopefully he will be fine.”

Joe Gomez shines in Konate’s absence

Joe Gomez produced an outstanding performance for Liverpool vs Brighton after coming on in place of Konate in the second half.

He squandered a great chance to score moments after coming onto the pitch, but defensively, he was absolutely unbeatable as he rolled back the days to forge a rock-solid partnership with Van Dijk.

Liverpool have two more games before the third international break of the season and the upcoming run presents Gomez with a fantastic opportunity to start games at the back.

Jarell Quansah also earned praise from Arne Slot earlier this week, so hopefully, the Reds should be able to cope if Konate is missing for a few weeks.
