Qualifying will start late at Interlagos. Less than an hour before the start of the session, a very violent downpour arrived on the circuit and very quickly, it became obvious that the track would not be passable at 3:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. French time) for the start of Q1 .

After authorizing the teams to close their garages, which must normally remain open, the FIA announced a postponement of the start of the session, for the moment without setting a deadline since the rain remains violent.

The race management initially announced that it would communicate at 3:00 p.m., which it did to announce that the next information would not be given until 3:30 p.m., or 7:30 p.m. in mainland .

Frédéric Vasseur expressed some doubts about the possibility that the session could be held this Saturday. “We have the radar which tells us that we are in a small lull and that it will fall a little harder afterwards!” explained the Ferrari boss on Canal+.

“Afterwards, it’s rather better but I don’t know if we won’t be limited by the visibility after a while. We have to see how it will drain on the circuit because here, it’s very hilly , so there are necessarily low points, which often create small lakes, and it could be complicated.”

If the session can take place on a wet track, this running could be useful in view of the race, for which the risk of rain exceeds 50%.
