The past two weeks have held a wide variety of emotions for FCB. Rotblau played against FC St.Gallen 1879 at home in the Joggeli and scored the winning goal in the last minute. This was followed by a gala 6-1 win in Winterthur and on Wednesday the setback came when, after a temporary 1-0 lead, they lost 2-3 in Bern.
Now the opponent is Winterthur again and against the Eulachstädter it’s about getting back on the road to success. “It’s strange to play against the same opponent twice in such a short time,” said Fabio Celestini during the preview discussion on Friday, “but my message to the team before every game is that it doesn’t matter who we play against and us Series or our opponent’s position in the table is not important. FC Winterthur played with a new system in St.Gallen and, like against us, created some good opportunities. We have to forget last week’s 6-1 because every game has its own story.”
Too many ball losses
Now there was a setback in Bern during the week. And so Celestini has set a clear goal for the two rounds before the next championship break: “We need six points from the encounters with Winterthur and Yverdon. In order for us to succeed, we must no longer have so many easily avoidable ball losses in our build-up game. We had too many of them, but that’s also part of our development.”
It hasn’t become any easier for the FCB coach to find his line-up for Saturday. In addition to the recently injured Jonas Adjetey, Arnau Comas, Arlet Junior Zé, Kevin Rüegg, Gabriel Sigua and Finn van Breemen, there is now the absence of the suspended Léo Leroy. And with Leon Avdullahu, Adrian Barisic, Anton Kade and Nicolas Vouilloz, four other players have three yellow cards and one is facing a ban. “I lack options at the moment, especially in defense. I hope none of my centre-backs get another booking. We’re a little broader in the midfield so we can better compensate for Leroy’s loss.”
Statistics speak for FCB
Even if series don’t play a role for Fabio Celestini, it should still be mentioned that FCB has had an extremely good record in direct duels with FC Winterthur since their resurgence: Rotblau won six of the eight matches and the points were shared twice. Purely statistically, there are good reasons that FCB will be able to get back on the road to success and that the 2:3 in Bern will only be a small setback.
