“I will summon the parents in the coming days” minors suspected of being involved in the urban violence of the last two nights, said Saturday November 2 on franceinfo Alexandre Vincendet, mayor (Horizons) of Rillieux-la-Pape, near Lyon (Rhône). Thursday evening, after fires “five or six cars”three people were arrested and another arrested for mortar fire. All these suspects are minors, which the councilor judges “purely mind-blowing”. This demonstrates, according to him, that he “there is a real subject on parental authority”.

Alexandre Vincendet considers that “Parents are the first educators of their children”. “It is not up to the police, nor the mayors, nor the teachers to educate children”he insists. The mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape believes that “Parents should care about what their children are doing”especially if they “put themselves and others in danger”.

To empower parents, the mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape therefore set up in 2018 “a deliberation which allows parents to be summoned before a Council of Family Rights and Duties” to offer them “an accompaniment”. He also created a parenting and family center which offers “social support” or solutions “to fight against addictions with psychologists and associations”. But if these families “refuse” this support before the Council of Rights and Duties of Families, then the municipality can “suspend municipal aid”.
