Loïc Keita, player of the SOM, Millau rugby club, died on Saturday October 26 on the road to Maureilhan, near Béziers. His vehicle collided head-on with a van. His driver files a complaint.
As we reported on October 27, Loïc Keita, the rugby player from SOM, the Millau rugby club, died on Saturday October 26, around 2:30 p.m., in a traffic accident on the Maureilhan road.
A fifty-year-old woman, living in Maureilhan, filed a complaint this Wednesday, October 30, with the Béziers police station. She is the driver of the van which was hit by the vehicle driven by the rugby player. The day after the accident, the hypothesis was that Loïc Keita had lost control of his car and hit a parapet.
A frontal collision
The Maureilhanaise explains that the Millavois was driving, alone, in the Maureilhan-Beziers direction. She alone too, but in the opposite direction. She was going home, “driving at less than 70 km/h because we couldn't see very well because of the rain”. While wanting to overtake, Loïc Keita would have moved to the left because of aquaplaning and would have crashed into the Maureilhanaise van. It was raining very hard that day.
The head-on collision caused the death of Loïc Keita. This is confirmed by the public prosecutor, Raphaël Balland. “I confirm to you that it was a frontal collision and that the first elements brought to my attention were indeed in the direction of the deceased victim being transported onto the opposite lane.”
The driver evacuated to the Béziers emergency room
The driver, stuck, was taken out of her vehicle by the firefighters and evacuated to the Béziers emergency room. She left Monday after wrist surgery. She suffered chest trauma, with fracture of five ribs, contusions and dermabrasions of a shoulder and hips, a fracture of the radius… With an ITT of 45 days. “I am a landscaper and I can no longer work, my car is destroyed.”
An investigation could be opened by the prosecutor to, among other things, establish responsibilities, particularly in terms of speed and a possible lack of insurance.
