Luis Cortés Ríos –Lufo–is a photographer originally from Lesaka who settled in Valencia 35 years ago and who until now “had never seen such a dantesque spectacle. The streets were full of mud, cars were piled on top of each other, and the water destroyed buildings. Everything was brutal,” he described.
Even if there were areas of Valencia that were more affected than others, one of the towns that bore the brunt was Picanya. “I tried to access it with the motorcycle to take photos, but they wouldn’t let me and I had to walk. The water reached my calves,” he said.

In this way, he was able to see people who were stuck or cloistered in small spaces, people climbing trees, and even a family who were homeless and who were going to stay under the bridge that later sank. “They told me that they didn’t want to leave because they had babies, but if they didn’t, they would have died buried there.”, he assured. As for the neighbors, “they were devastated and sad. They don’t know what is going to happen now, after this misfortune,” he concluded.
