- Warming up through Halloween
- Pattern change to start November
- Rain chances look slim
STAYING WARM THURSDAY
A large area of high pressure will continue to push off the East Coast on Thursday. Highs will likely soar into the 70s and even close to 80° by the afternoon.
An approaching front could produce wind gusts of 20-25 mph Thursday afternoon and evening.
We’ll likely wrap up the month of October 1-3 inches below normal for rainfall.
Halloween: A Trick or A Treat?
Halloween Evening: Get ready for a fun night! Early evening temps will be in the 60s and 70s under mostly clear skies—perfect for gathering the candy without any tricks from the weather!
Weekend Changes
Friday: Our next cold front will track through our hometowns on Friday. While most hometowns will stay dry, a few showers are likely, especially west of the Blue Ridge, through Friday morning.
Saturday & Sunday: Seasonable temperatures will return for the weekend. Highs will warm into the mid to upper 60s and lows will fall into the 40s.
Fire Safety This Fall
Fall Fire Season: Just a reminder, fall fire season runs from October 15 to November 30. It’s important to avoid burning on warm, dry, and breezy days, and always check the local burn regulations. If you do decide to burn outdoors, never leave the fire unattended—remember, about 90% of wildfires are caused by people!
Fall Foliage Update
As we close out October, the fall foliage is reaching its peak! Areas like the Greenbrier and spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway are looking especially vibrant this weekend. Elsewhere, colors are changing fast but haven’t quite hit the peak yet. Expect the beautiful fall hues to wrap up in the next week or two!
TROPICS
Hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin wraps up at the end of November. That still leaves some time for late-season development. We’ll give you the First Alert if anything materializes. You can track the latest here.
