Paris Has Fallen on Canal+: Will Gerard Butler be in the cast of the series?

This is the series of the moment not to be missed on Canal+. Latest Original Creation of the encrypted channel, Has Fallen is an action and spy series, led by Tewfik Jallab and Ritu Arya, playing two spies ready to do anything to save the French capital from danger. If we know that the show is co-produced by Gerard Butler, should we still hope for participation from the British actor? SFR News carried out his investigation.

Unveiled on September 23 on Canal+ and on the myCANAL platform, Paris Has Fallen is currently a real hit with viewers of the encrypted channel. With a no-nonsense, effective storyline punctuated by great action scenes, the series has clearly convinced fans of the genre. As a reminder, Paris Has Fallen follows two agents working for the French and British secret services respectively. Tewfik Jallab plays Vincent Taleb, in the service of the DGSE, while Ritu Arya plays the role of Zara Taylor, MI6 agent. Together, the tandem will have to do everything to thwart the terrible plans of a terrorist, determined to put the City of Lights under siege, then reduce it to ashes…

Could Gerard Butler make an appearance in Paris Has Fallen?

If the scenario of Paris Has Fallen is familiar to you, it’s perfectly normal. The series, which is currently in the heyday of Canal+, is directly inspired by the cinematography saga The Fallwith three feature films to date: The Fall of the White House (2013), The Fall of London (2016) et The Fall of the President (2019). The three films are produced by Millennium Media and G-Base, also co-producers of the television show with Studiocanal. Note that G-Base is the production company of actor Gerard Butler, who also played the formidable agent Mike Banning in the three films mentioned above.

While he was both co-producer and lead actor in the three films, will we see Gerard Butler in the cast of Paris Has Fallen ? The idea is attractive and was even part of the plans of Howard Overman, screenwriter of the series. During a press point covered by our colleagues fromAllocinated, the screenwriter in fact explained that a cameo for the actor, in other words a brief appearance, was indeed planned, but that the actors’ strike across the Atlantic made the idea impossible:

”We tried to get a cameo. Unfortunately due to the actors’ strike in the United States, we were unable to make this possible. This was originally planned.”

If a brief appearance by the actor who played King Leonidas in the peplum 300 would have charmed fans who have seen the three films in the saga The FallOverman, however, explains his desire to design a series that speaks to the general public, completely independent of the franchise:

”We wanted the series to be able to stand on its own. We wanted it to be able to speak to fans of the saga as well as people who have never seen the films. We didn’t want to have ‘inside jokes’ and references that would only speak to half of the viewers […] It was important to us that if you haven’t seen the films, you can still watch the series, and enjoy it as a unique work.”

For these various reasons, fans will unfortunately not see Gerard Butler in Paris Has Fallen. The series co-signed by Canal+ is therefore entirely based on the – effective – duo formed by Tewfik Jallab and Ritu Arya, as well as on breathtaking action scenes which are worth the detour.
