SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The cool nighttime temperatures, combined with warm and increasingly humid afternoons, continue for the Suncoast. The breezy winds we have been experiencing continue to transport surface moisture from the Atlantic waters to the Suncoast, slowly moistening our surface air. Aloft, building and expanding high pressure will dampen our rain chances again this week.

There will be subtle and slowly evolving changes in our weather. First, the breezy winds of late will begin to relax. The wind will remain sufficiently strong today that the Small Craft Advisory will remain in place. However, wind- and water-related sports, including boating, may have more favorable conditions tomorrow than over the last four or five days.

The persistent northeast flow of air will continue to push dew points into the low 70s over the next few afternoons, and for many, this will feel a little sticky in the afternoons. Highs will hover in the mid to upper 80s this week, returning us to more normal temperatures for this time of year, with some slightly above-normal temperatures by midweek.

The possibility of one to two inland sprinkles is not out of the question, but the chances are very small. Afternoon cumulus clouds will be present but will not be strong enough to prevent a mostly to partly sunny afternoon sky.

By the end of the workweek or the start of the weekend, a backdoor cold front will move into the area with little more fanfare than slightly lower humidity and perhaps a minor increase in wind speeds over the weekend.

High pressure in the Atlantic and along the Eastern Seaboard, combined with late-week high pressure building in the wake of the backdoor cold front, will all act as a deterrent to any tropical pathways directed at Florida. We will keep an eye on Oscar in the Bahamas, but the National Hurricane Center continues to forecast a turn in its path, which will send it out into open Atlantic waters and away from Florida.
