The Italian club welcomes a choice profile in its management, even if it is not exactly a new recruit.

Having just retired from the field, Raphaël Varane did not move from Manchester United to Como this summer for nothing. The promoted to Serie A has just announced on Saturday that the 2018 world champion was joining its staff and even its management. More precisely, its board of directors, as the person concerned himself revealed in his long interview a few days ago for our colleagues at L’Equipe. Clarification made by the club, here he is “advisor on youth development, education and innovation”: “He will bring his experience and leadership to this new role, marking the next chapter of his career off the field .”

“Helping young people prepare for life beyond football”

Raphaël Varane must collaborate directly with those responsible for development and the educational program, in order to support the club’s youth policy. “His commitment will benefit not only the players, but also the wider community, through educational initiatives. By integrating academic, professional and leadership training into youth programs, Raphaël Varane aims to help young people athletes to prepare for life beyond football.”

But training will not be his only domain, since the former player of Real Madrid – where he was quadruple European champion – will also advise the club on its product development strategy, integrating technology and innovation : “From improving digital solutions to improving data analytics platforms and ticketing systems, his input will help guide Como in evolving its approach to fan engagement and operational improvements.” The ex-defender said he was very interested in business, having already launched three foundations “and I also want to help players find that balance around football”. Recalling having swallowed a lot of snakes and that it was “very, very hard” despite having a good entourage, his overall leitmotif of recent years which ended up making him say stop.
