Météo France has placed the Oise department on orange “rain-flood” alert from 6 p.m. this Thursday, October 17. Unsurprisingly, the rain actually fell, and very heavily, in certain sectors of the Oise.
The Creillois basin very affected
The Creillois basin was particularly seriously affected. In Creil, but also in Nogent-sur-Oise, entire streets are flooded, vehicles are blocked by the rising waters.
Many streets are impassable. Certain sports facilities are also affected, this is the case within the Municipal Tennis of Nogent-sur-Oise.
This heavy rainfall also affected the town of Chantilly. There, the bridge located on Avenue du Général Leclerc was closed to traffic from 6 p.m. Not far from there, at the station, rail traffic was cut for part of the evening between Creil and Paris Nord, making traffic in the surrounding area very difficult.
Between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. this Thursday, accumulations ranging from 30 to 50 mm were observed on the Chantilly-Creil axis.
166 firefighter interventions
Firefighters have been responding in large numbers since 6 p.m. “The Oise firefighters undertook 166 interventions linked to climatic events, mainly in the South of
Department, notably the Creillois basin. More than 60 firefighters are on site, including 15 specialized in water rescue,” we can read this Thursday evening on the Facebook page of the Oise firefighters.
“Packets of rain are moving up from the Paris region towards Picardy, sometimes with sustained intensity, particularly in the Oise” indicated the forecaster in his 4 p.m. bulletin.
Although they have already calmed down, these rains could continue until next night, with potentially notable accumulations. These rains can generate “runoff-flooding phenomena given the particularly sensitive hydrological context”.
Nevertheless, specifies Météo France “This episode remains incommensurate with the rainy episode linked to Kirk”. Episode which affected the department on October 9.
