Tuesday’s crazy match, in which the Polish national team drew with the Croatians 3-3 after a great spectacle, is over. At the PGE National Stadium, the Croatian fans were very loud and there were flares, but their behavior was still better than a month ago, when they hosted the White and Reds in Osijek.
“On Wednesday, October 16, the UEFA Disciplinary Committee announced the decision regarding the sanctions imposed on HNS for incidents during the UEFA Nations League match between Croatia and Poland, which took place in Osijek,” the Croatian federation said in an official statement.
The fine of EUR 34,500 (approximately PLN 148,500) includes penalties for throwing objects by fans (EUR 15,000), using flares (EUR 4,500), a fan running onto the pitch (EUR 8,000) and obscene shouting at players and referees (7,000 euros).
The match took place on September 8 in Osijek and was part of the 2nd round of the UEFA Nations League. Croatia won the match 1-0 thanks to a great free kick by Luka Modric.
This week, on October 15, both teams met again, this time in Warsaw at PGE Narodowy, during the 4th round match of the Nations League. The spectacular 3-3 draw was a very exciting match, fortunately there were no major incidents involving the fans.
Two rounds before the end of the group stage, Portugal is leading in the group in which Poland is playing with 10 points, followed by Croatia with 7 points, Poland with 4 points, and Scotland in last place with 1 point. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Nations League quarter-finals.
