The Rhône is on red flood alert on Thursday October 17. The A47 and the Givors commercial area, close to the Gier, were flooded. 47 people were stuck for several hours on the first floor of the store. Around 10:30 p.m., everyone was able to be evacuated.
The Carrefour shopping center in Givors was partly evacuated on Thursday October 17 morning. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour, indicated that 47 people were still gathered on the first floor of the store.
“The water rose very quickly from 10:45 a.m. (…) The teams then met on the first floor of the store where they are currently in safety (39 employees as well as 8 customers and employees of other retail brands the shopping mall)”, he specifies on X.
Around 10:30 p.m., the Rhône prefecture told BFM Lyon that all the people had been able to be evacuated. Security guards are still on site to monitor.
In total, 463 people were evacuated during the day in the commercial area.
