the mayor accused of clandestinely opening the municipal swimming pool for women in burkinis

The municipal swimming pool in Le Bourget was closed on Sunday October 6, due to “a much too high chlorine level”. The same day, a women’s association was able to have a slot and members were able to swim in a burkini.

A rather incomprehensible story. Last Sunday, October 6, in the morning, the municipal swimming pool in Le Bourget was closed due to too high a chlorine level which made swimming dangerous. Except that it was reopened several hours later, at 1 p.m., so that members of the Femmes Relais du Bourget association could swim there.

During this session, there was no lifeguard and the members were able to swim in burkinis, according to messages that Le Parisien journalists were able to consult. The mayor of the town, Jean-Baptiste Borsali, declared that this swim took place within a legal framework and that it was held within the framework of Pink October.

The chlorine level would have become acceptable again

Concerning the chlorine level, he maintains that the level had become acceptable again. Unfortunately, he was unwilling to provide the documentation that this was the case. As soon as things were discovered, the residents of the city as well as the main opposition group at the town hall wanted to revolt.

“The law on secularism is not respected,” denounces a resident in the columns of Le Parisien. Vincent Capo-Canellas, UDI senator and former mayor of Le Bourget for 16 years, criticized the holding of this event. “How could we authorize this clandestine swimming when the swimming pool was closed for everyone?”, he declared, recalling that it is imperative to have a lifeguard, even in events private.

“We did not force entry at all”

According to comments collected by Le Parisien, the secretary of Femmes Relais du Bourget, Karima Miloudi, assures that “the agent who came to open the swimming pool recorded the data. He said it was good for swimming. We didn’t force entry at all.”

She added that the association had reserved a slot “for a specific action, in favor of women who have been affected or who are still fighting against breast cancer, and who have swimsuits adapted to prostheses”.
