With the precipitation which fell during the day of Wednesday October 9, 2024, but also those which have affected the Orne department for several months, the soils are saturated. The water therefore flows towards the watercourses which start to overflow.
The Huisne sector particularly affected
This is why Météo France has placed the Orne department on orange flood alert. For the moment, this vigilance particularly affects the southeast of the department, as indicated in a press release from the Orne prefecture:
Météo-France has placed the Orne department on orange #flood vigilance. Rainy episodes cause flooding through runoff and overflows, particularly in the south-east of the department in the Huisne sector. The prefect of Orne calls on everyone to be extremely vigilant: stay sheltered and stay away from waterways, avoid all travel, particularly by car, take refuge on upper floors and stay informed.
A flood vigilance which is already maintained for the day of Friday October 11, 2024. Note that the departments of the Sarthe and theEure-et-Loir are also placed on orange vigilance, while those of Calvados and Eure are in yellow.
