Jupiler Pro League – The Belgian Union prosecutor’s office is demanding an additional fine for Beerschot

This championship match had to be stopped definitively after 76 minutes of play, Sunday at the Bosuil stadium. Antwerp was leading 4-0 when Beerschot supporters threw smoke bombs onto the pitch, preventing the continuation of the match counting for the 9th day of the Jupiler Pro League.

The match should have continued from the minute stoppage on another date. But Beerschot forfeited (5-0), which was confirmed by the Belgian Union, and the club was fined 50,000 euros by the Pro League.

The public prosecutor’s office of the Belgian Union, given the already “very heavy” record of Beerschot, it justifies in its arguments, demands a fine of 10,000 euros for the use and throwing of pyrotechnic devices which could be a danger for others and causing damage to infrastructure. For having caused the definitive stopping of the match at Antwerp, the prosecution is proposing that no Beerschot supporter be allowed during the Antwerp club’s next three championship matches from 15 calendar days following a final decision in this matter.
