World Teachers’ Day: Gabriel Attal highlights the importance of the duty of recognition towards teachers

It was at the esplanade of the National Library of that Gabriel Attal recalled the fundamental values inherent to the teaching profession. Providing unconditional support to teachers in the event of “unjustified quarrels”, he underlines his desire to “ guarantee the happiness of our teachers. », who have recently faced multifactorial crises. This is why the minister aims to “ make this profession more desirable “. Without denying the crisis of attractiveness facing the teaching profession, he nevertheless insists that there is “ no vocations crisis », countering this image of Epinal. The primary objective is clear: raise the level of the school. He therefore proposes various measures including the launch of a “knowledge requirement mission” and a “knowledge shock”. Return to the key points of his speech.

A duty of gratitude to teachers

The minister wanted to emphasize the importance of teachers’ remuneration. Thus, all newly tenured teachers will be paid at least €2,100 net per month and those in reinforced priority education, €2,466 net. This recognition is also exercised through respect for the authority of the teaching body, both in terms of its person and in terms of its content. In fact, self-censorship must be eradicated in favor of a “ undisputed authority of knowledge. ». Et the place of this fundamental knowledge must be reaffirmed according to Gabriel Attal.

Striving next term to raise the standard of the school

« Raising the level is the urgency of our school » urges Gabriel Attal. Indeed, it is estimated that between 1995 and 2018, French students lost the equivalent of a year in terms of level. So a 4th grade student in 2018 had the level of a 5th grade student in 1995. This is why the ministry decided to “implement a knowledge shock”, composed of various measures:

  • Teacher training
  • The introduction in 6th grade of an additional hour of support in French or mathematics depending on needs
  • The splitting of large sections, CP and CE1 in priority education to reduce gaps in reading and arithmetic
  • The reintroduction of mathematics into the common core in 1st grade
  • The new baccalaureate and patent calendar to reclaim the month of June

The minister also wishes “ raise the level of requirements » towards students to compensate for this level gap. He thus hopes “ prepare [les élèves] to the adult world. »

Orientation fairs not to be missed!

From September to June, Studyrama organizes Higher Studies fairs throughout France! This is the opportunity to discover hundreds of training courses from bac to bac+5, to talk with the educational leaders to ask them all your questions! You will also be able to attend numerous conferences around themes related to orientation: Parcoursup, professions, sectors, career opportunities, etc.

The mission requiring knowledge, first in class

In order to raise the level of the school, Gabriel Attal announces the launch of the training of a “Mission requiring knowledge” : « This commission will be coordinated by various national education experts and composed of three working groups: one for schools, one for middle schools, and one for high schools; which will each bring together two professors (…) but also a rector, a academy inspectorand a Inspector General of National Education. » For the minister, fundamental knowledge in French and mathematics determine success in other disciplines. Therefore, it gives priority to these two subjects. A 8 week deadline calendar is programmed to “ put together the strategy that [lui] will win the level battle » and “ bring about a real clash of knowledge ».
