Each of the two players won two Grand Slam titles this year. Sinner won both events on hard (Australia and US Open), Alcaraz those on earth (Roland-Garros) and on grass (Wimbledon).

In the first semi-final on Tuesday, the 21-year-old Spaniard defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev, 5th in the world and 3rd seed, in two sets, 7-5 and 6-3, in 1 hour and 26 minutes of game.

The 23-year-old Italian then dismissed the very unexpected 22-year-old Chinese guest Yunchaokete Bu (ATP 96) 6-3 and 7-6 (7/3), in a meeting which was not as easy as that. It ended after 2 hours and 5 minutes of play.

This will already be the 10th confrontation between the two Mediterraneans, the second in the final after that of the ATP 250 in Umag in 2022 (ground) which went to Sinner. Alcaraz leads 5 to 4 after his two victories recorded this year, in the semi-finals, both at Indian Wells and at Roland Garros.

Alcaraz will aim for a 4th title in 2024 during his 5th final. He won at Indian Wells, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon and lost the Olympic final in . If he wins on Wednesday, he will win a 16th title in 21 finals.

Sinner will play his 7th final of the year. He won the first 6 (Australian Open, Rotterdam, Miami, Halle, Cincinnati and US Open). He too will play his 21st final where he aims for a 17th career title.
