After dominating Sturm Graz at the opening of the Champions League, the Brestois travel to Salzburg on Tuesday to continue, and “write a new page” in history for their coach Eric Roy.

Less than two weeks after signing a historic victory against Sturm Graz for its big European debut (2-1), Stade Brestois plays its second Champions League match on Thursday (6:45 p.m.) on the pitch of another Austrian team: Salzburg. And as before their continental premiere, the Finisterians recorded another defeat the previous weekend. And if the one at the Parc des Princes against PSG was all in all logical (1-3), that of Friday at is much less so, especially because of its scale (0-3).

“All matches bring lessons. Afterwards, it’s an epiphenomenon, it’s an episode in a season. An unfortunate episode, but everything should not be called into question after a non-match”, Eric Roy, however, brushed aside Monday at a press conference, ensuring that the state of mind within his group remains “very, very good”: “We must also be aware of the chance we have to play in this competition, a chance that we deserved. I think overall it’s going well.”

“We are going to confront an ogre”

Before returning to the small feat achieved in Roudourou. “It was important for us to have a good match to be able to hope in this competition. We did it. Now we have to be able to move on. We know that we are going to face an ogre in this championship, that whether in terms of organization, infrastructure, team, it’s another world for us. Like in the first match, we will have the desire to try to exist in this match.

And against Salzburg, third in the Austrian championship but which has two games less, the 57-year-old technician expects “the same thing but better. (…) We will have to be able to take up the physical challenge and in intensity. We are capable of doing it. Each match has its story, and I hope that we will be able to write a new one.” All that’s left to do is…
