Thibaut Courtois was slammed by his former supporters after taunting them this weekend. The official reaction from the Colchoneros has been released.
Targeted by Atletico Madrid supporters, Thibaut Courtois experienced a turbulent return to the Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico spoke for the first time through their coach Diego Simeone after the match.
El Cholo believed that it was necessary to sanction the troublemakers, but also the person who provoked them, Courtois in this case. The Colchoneros spoke out again on the incident, 24 hours after the fact, this time in an official press release.
Atletico writes that it has identified a supporter guilty of throwing an object and receiving a life ban: “Our security service continues to work with the police to identify the rest of those involved, who will also be permanently expelled as soon as they will be located.”
No more hiding
The “Courtois affair” (whose name is not mentioned at any time in the press release, proof that the subject is sensitive) will also have another consequence: “The club will soon integrate into its internal regulations the ban on use inside the stadium any element or clothing that makes it impossible to distinguish a person’s face in order to hide their identity, a situation which until now was not envisaged in our regulations”.
The Colchoneros want to be very firm: “The club’s firm conviction to eradicate all forms of violence and our defense of the values of sport are indisputable. We will continue to work with all our resources with the aim of eliminating this type of behavior.”
