Detroit Lions (3-1) – Seattle Seahawks (3-1) : 42-29

18/18. Never has a quarterback attempted so many passes without missing a single one in an official game. And Jared Goff (18/18, 292 yards, 2 TDs) was not content with this record Monday evening, since he also caught a pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown to add a receiving touchdown to his file. All in a match that Detroit took a little time to kill.

But facing the Seahawks deprived of many defensive players, the Lions’ offensive strength ended up making the difference. Geno Smith (38/56, 395 yards, 1 TD, 1 int) and his teammates did their best to keep up with the hellish pace of their opponents, but it was not enough.

Seattle also paid for its lack of success at the end of the game.

Motor City au diesel

After a failed first offensive, the Lions put their foot on the accelerator. David Montgomery (12 races, 40 yards, 1 TD), then Jahmyr Gibbs (14 races, 78 yards, 2 TDs) twice found the end zone on the ground. 21-7 for Detroit at the break.

But the Seahawks are not giving up. Far from it. Returning from the locker room, the two attacks launch into a frantic race. Five touchdowns are scored in a row! AJ Barner (2 rec, 27 yards, 1 TD) first for Seattle, then a double from Kenneth Walker (12 races, 80 yards, 3 TDs). Jared Goff invites himself to receive in the end zone, and he then finds Jameson Williams (2 rec, 80 yards, 1 TD) for a 70 yard touchdown.

After this pass, the score is 35-27 in favor of the Lions in the last quarter. But the Seahawks will eventually give up.

Seahawks stall, Lions bite

After such an offensive festival, the defenses end up having their say. They make two stops. But the Lions find the fault one last time, with a new connection from Goff for St. Brown (6 rec, 45 yards, 1 TD) which brings the score to 42-27.

Aggressive, the Seahawks attempt a 4th & 3 on the opposing 3 yards. Incomplete pass. DK Metcalf (7 rec, 104 yards), Tyler Lockett (5 rec, 61 yards) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (8 rec, 51 yards) are helpless after their great evening.

The Lions concede a safety (42-29) and return the ball with two minutes to play. But this time, Geno Smith is intercepted.

If both teams have things to refine in defense, the attacks delivered a great duel, which showed that the Seahawks, and especially the Lions, can harbor ambitions in the NFC.
