The Polish world No. 2 dictated the tempo as she wished during the first set, notably with her long-line backhand which very quickly broke Navarro's defensive dikes, often caught lengthwise and at speed. The second round was going to be a little more competitive. Swiatek was the first to rule out a break point at 2-2. The only one of the match for the one who reigned on the circuit for a long time before being debunked from the world number one last October by Aryna Sabalenka. But Navarro was much more in the fight afterwards and undoubtedly even the victim of a little injustice during this fifth game of the second set, Swiatek retaining his serve by going to pick up a drop shot which had, a priori, doubled, very close to the chair arbitration.
