Testing positive in an anti-doping test (following so-called “unintentional” contamination), Iga Swiatek has already been suspended for one month. Visiting a press conference before the start of the season, on the United Cup, the five-time Grand Slam winner spoke about a potential appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as was the case for Jannik Sinner, who was not suspended after testing positive twice.
“I don't think there's any reason, because I haven't played three tournaments. I have already been suspended for a long time (one month, editor's note) and I lost my place as world number 1 because of it. I also know how the procedure works, I have given all possible evidence and there is not much more to be done, honestly. So in my opinion, there is no reason for WADA to appeal. But I have no influence on what will happen. I can only say that the handling of the case seemed fair to me. I managed to give the source of contamination fairly quickly. This is why the case was closed relatively quickly. I didn't participate in several tournaments and received a nominal fine, but that's over now. »
